Smart Iot Glove for Post-Stroke Rehabilitation Monitoring in Support of Sustainable Development Goal 3

Objective: This study aims to develop a smart wearable glove for post-stroke rehabilitation that enables real-time monitoring of blood oxygen saturation (SpO₂), heart rate (BPM), and muscle activity (EMG). The glove is designed to promote patient independence and support remote therapy, especially for individuals with limited access to healthcare. Theoretical Framework: The device integrates Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and wearable biomedical sensors to assist recovery tracking in daily activities. Method: A prototype was built using an ESP32 microcontroller embedded with MAX30102 and MyoWare sensors. Data are processed in real time and transmitted wirelessly to a web-based dashboard. Testing was performed on healthy volunteers to evaluate the system’s accuracy and responsiveness during hand movement. Results and Discussion: The system effectively monitored SpO₂, BPM, and EMG with minimal deviation from standard medical devices. Data transmission showed a stable average latency of 320 ms. The dashboard provided intuitive visualization, facilitating communication between patients and clinicians. Research Implications: This system facilitates home-based rehabilitation while enabling healthcare professionals to monitor patient progress remotely. By offering an affordable IoT-based health solution, it supports Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3), which aims to ensure equitable access to quality healthcare and rehabilitation services, especially for underserved communities. Originality/Value: This work introduces an affordable, compact, and user-friendly solution that bridges clinical care and independent recovery, offering tangible value for communities seeking inclusive rehabilitation technologies.
