CCS MMV may Learn from an UGS Case Implementing Trinity Integrity Risk Management
Summary There are many similarities between CCS and UGS, and MMV is a critical risk management step for these gas storage facilities. The integrity management of UGS and CCS requires functional and physical integrity of geological body, wellbore, and surface facilities during the whole life cycle of storage facilities. Based on the operational practice of an UGS case, which is online for 11 years and was converted from a depleted gas reservoir, the “geological body-wellbore-surface facility” trinity integrity risk management model is established. For the gas reservoir management, a dynamic monitoring system of “conventional monitoring + optical fiber monitoring + micro seismic monitoring + 4D geomechanical dynamic monitoring” is established. These ensure a safe, stable, under control and efficient operation. In this paper, we will show this UGS case which has implemented Trinity Integrity Risk Management (TIRM) and dynamic 4D monitoring system for the whole life cycle of UGS operation, whose concept and practice may be a good demonstration for CCS MMV utilizing depleted reservoir to storage CO2.
