RUSSIAN HIGHER ENGINEERING EDUCATION IN THE CONTEXT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: LIMITATIONS AND FACTORS OF DEVELOPMENT
In the article, the main trends in the development of higher engineering education aimed at achieving sustainable development goals in economically developed countries of the world and the existing practices of training socially-oriented engineers in the Russian Federation are considered. Based on the analysis of research publications and information found on the websites of organizations related to the training of engineering on the principles of sustainable development, the limitations and conditions for the development of this process are identified. The limitations include: the “catching-up” mode of engineering education development; underestimation of the role of the humanities in the training of a modern engineer; lack of psychological and pedagogical research on the impact of information and communication technologies in education on the communicative and cognitive abilities of contemporary students. The factors of development include: the opening of advanced engineering schools as innovative platforms for developing the strategy of training engineers of the future; the incorporation of the humanities and social disciplines in the content of university engineering programs as the basis for the formation of a sustainable worldview of a future specialist; studying the potential of information and communication technologies in the development of communicative competence and critical thinking of students; volunteering as a means of developing trans-professional competencies.
