Genetic variability, correlation, path coefficient and genetic diversity analysis in Brassica juncea L.

The material was evaluated in randomized design with three replications during the Rabi season of 2022-23.The estimate of expected genetic advance were higher for number of pods for plant, biological yield per plant, plant height per plant and number of secondarybranches per plant and law for harvest index and number of seed for pod. Only one character biological yield exhibited direct contribution in increasing grain yield was the direct effect of biological yield on grain yield. The cluster analysis using data in eleven quantitative characters, 33 genotypes of Indian mustard were grouped into 6 clusters indicating considerable amount of genetic diversity in the material. The average intercluster D2 value between I and II revealed maximum genetic diversity between these twoclusters. The minimum inter cluster average D2 value was obtained between cluster II and IV revealed minimum genetic diversity between these two clusters. Cluster II had highest mean for number of secondary branches per plant, biological yield per plant, whereas cluster V had highest mean for grain yield suggested cluster II and V were seemed ‘Best’ for above traits for selection the genotypes. On the basis of genetic divergence and mean performance of genotypes in respect to various characters four genotypes namely, Narendra Rai-1, Pusa Mustard-21, RLM-619, GM-1, PBR-97, Nargold, Pusa Mustard22from cluster V were considered as the most diverse and desirable genotypes.
