Effect of IAA on seed germination and plant growth of Sorghum, Triticum, Cicer and Vigna radiata
The problem of seed germination can overcome by applying PGR such as IAA. To examining seed germination and plant growth vigor the seed of sorghum, wheat, gram and green gram were presoaked in 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000ppm IAA solution for a constant period 4 hour. Then seed of each crop sown and observed the seed germination and Plant vigor. It was found that the % germination was found to be decrease as per increase in the concentration in all four-crop seed. In sorghum the plant length and root length were significantly increased in all concentration; shoot length was significantly increased in at 500 and 1500 ppm concentration. In wheat, plant length was moderate as a result of treatment, the shoot length, root length, number of leaves and biomass were did not show any significant difference when compared to control. In green gram crop the plant length was significant in all concentration, the root length also significantly increased in all concentration but the shoot length did not show any significant difference. Whereas plant length was moderate as a result of treatment but it was significantly increased at optimum concentration in 500 and 1000 ppm concentration the root length and shoot length was significantly increased in at low concentration but it was decreased at high concentration, root length was grater then shoot length whereas, biomass is not variable. As IAA is plant hormone it was significantly decreased seed germination but as its role of cell division and elongation, it shown significant in plant growth in all for crop seeds at moderate concentration.
