Honorary Secretary’s Message

As I sit down to pen a few thoughts in my role as the Hon General Secretary of the Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry (IAPHD), I find myself reflecting on the journey of our field and the ever-growing network of professionals that continue to shape it. As our field grows, not just in numbers, but in relevance and responsibility, so must the quality and culture of its academic discourse. It is with this in mind that the IAPHD launched the “Author’s Viewpoint Live” series. This initiative brings authors of recently published papers face-to-face with peers, students, and readers in an informal yet insightful session. The aim is simple: to move beyond the printed article and into the real story behind the research – the motivations, the challenges, the lessons learned, and the questions that still remain. The first two sessions have been met with enthusiasm and curiosity-participants have engaged actively, authors have shared generously, and the sessions have left us inspired to continue this dialog-driven format. I would also like to take a moment to congratulate the organizing team and participants of the recently held XVI IAPHD National PG Convention for its remarkable success. The scientific fervor, enthusiasm, and camaraderie witnessed during the event reaffirm our commitment to academic excellence and professional growth. Our field is no longer confined to traditional roles. Public health dentists today are educators, researchers, policy influencers, communicators, and community leaders. The versatility of our profession must be nurtured, especially during the postgraduate years. This is the time to build skill sets that empower us to contribute meaningfully across sectors. Whether it’s health systems research, behavioral science, health communication, or data analysis – these domains are not just add-ons but essential to our identity as modern-day public health professionals. The theme of this year’s National Public Health Dentistry Day – ”Strengthening Oral Health through One Health Principles” is a timely and powerful reminder that our work must be collaborative, interdisciplinary, and preventive at its core. Our research and practice must extend beyond individual mouths to communities, policies, and ecosystems. I leave you with a thought that captures the essence of our journey: “Growth is never by mere chance; it is the result of forces working together.” – James Cash Penney. Let us continue to work together, learn together, and grow together. Our association is not just an organization – it is a collective force of change. Warm regards,
