Design and implementation of a building energy management system using photovoltaic power generation
Abstract This work aims to design and implement a building energy management system (BEMS) based on photovoltaic (PV) power generation to address global challenges such as increasing energy demand, environmental pollution, and climate change. PV power generation technology, which converts solar energy into electrical power through the PV effect, is one of the key methods for utilizing solar energy. This work begins with a comprehensive analysis of the design principles of an intelligent BEMS, encompassing data collection, network communication, data processing and analysis, control execution, and user interaction. Building on this foundation, the design of a PV power generation system is presented. This system covers component selection and configuration for solar panels, controllers, inverters, protection devices, and automatic transfer switches. The work also explores key low-carbon design elements in Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV). They include PV module conversion efficiency, durability, stability, and comprehensive considerations for system design and integration. A comprehensive building located in a wind farm area of Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, is selected as a case study for applying the proposed BEMS. In practical application, on May 16, 2023, the total electricity consumption of the building is 402.0 kWh, of which 117.3 kWh is used for air conditioning and 33.1 kWh for lighting. Through system optimization and scheduling, unnecessary energy waste is effectively reduced. In conclusion, this work successfully designs and implements a PV power generation-based BEMS. This system achieves remarkable improvements in building energy efficiency, reduced energy consumption, and carbon emissions.
