Multidisciplinary rehabilitation nursing of a patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis undergoing percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy using balloon dilation
This article summarizes the multidisciplinary rehabilitation nursing experience of a patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) after percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG). Based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health framework, a multidisciplinary team led by neurology was formed to implement comprehensive interventions such as stepwise respiratory training, balloon dilation therapy, nutritional support, and swallowing function rehabilitation on the basis of routine nursing. The multidisciplinary rehabilitation model can effectively improve swallowing function and nutritional indicators in ALS patients after PEG surgery, reduce the risk of complications, and improve quality of life.
