Efficacy of Lithospermum oil gauze wet compress in preventing and treatment of mechanical phlebitis after PICC catheters placement in patients with malignant lymphoma
Objective To investigate the efficacy of Lithospermum oil gauze wet compress in preventing and treatment of mechanical phlebitis caused by peripherally inserted central catheter(PICC) catheters placement in patients with malignant lymphoma. Methods Ninety patients with malignant lymphoma undergoing PICC catheterization were randomly divided into three groups: the observation group, control group 1 (magnesium sulfate wet compress), and control group 2 (Hirudoid cream application), with 30 cases in each group. The observation group received Lithospermum oil gauze wet compress, control group 1 was treated with 50% magnesium sulfate wet compress, and control group 2 applied Hirudoid cream, all administered twice daily. The incidence and severity grading of phlebitis, as well as vascular protection outcomes (Numeric Rating Scale of pain, resolution time of redness/swelling/pain, and vascular elasticity recovery time), were compared among the three groups. Serum IL-6 and CRP levels were measured before and after intervention. Results The total incidence of phlebitis in the observation group was 6. 67%(2/30), significantly lower than that in control group 1 (33. 33%) and control group 2 (23. 33%) (P<0. 05). Pain scores (2. 20±0. 25 points), resolution time of redness/swelling/pain (1. 02±0. 15 days), and vascular elasticity recovery time (2. 13±0. 40 days) in the observation group were all superior to those in the control groups (P<0. 01). Serological markers showed that IL-6 (0. 49±0. 07 ng/L) and CRP (4. 22±3. 20 mg/L) levels in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control groups (P<0. 01). Conclusion Lithospermum oil gauze wet compress effectively reduces the incidence of PICC-related mechanical phlebitis, alleviates inflammatory responses, promotes vascular repair, and demonstrates significant clinical value for promotion.
