Managing otitis media with effusion
Otitis media with effusion (OME) is characterised by a collection of fluid within the middle ear space without signs of acute infection. It is one of the most common causes of hearing impairment in children, with a greater prevalence in younger children. OME can have a profound effect on a child's language and speech development, affecting their overall development, behaviour and educational attainment. This article looks at its diagnosis and management options.
