Siting Method of Distributed Synchronous Condensers for High-Proportion Renewable Energy Transmission Systems

The incorporation of substantial amounts of renewable energy sources into the electrical grid presents difficulties for maintaining the voltage stability in transmission networks. Distributed synchronous condensers, as effective reactive power compensation devices, can significantly enhance voltage support capabilities. This study explores the optimal placement of distributed synchronous condensers in power systems, proposing a siting method based on a comprehensive voltage index. Through a practical renewable energy power system model, the voltage changes under monopolar block fault conditions are compared between the comprehensive voltage index and traditional overvoltage indices. A simulation model is established using the PSD-Edit program to confirm the reliability and efficiency of the introduced technique. The analysis findings reveal that the comprehensive voltage index has significant advantages in both overvoltage suppression and low-voltage support, providing a theoretical basis and technical support for the siting of distributed synchronous condensers, with important practical application value.
