Leveraging IoT for Environmental Monitoring: Real-Time Data Collection and Analysis for Sustainable Development

One of the most redundant but very important uses of the concept of IoT today is in enhancing environmental monitoring through real-time data collection and analysis. In this paper, the author examines the possibility of utilizing IoT technologies to solve some of the most pressing problems related to the environment and develop strategies for sustainable living. Numerous smart devices like air and water quality sensors placed in various ecosystems which may include urban ecosystems, agricultural ecosystems or aquatic ecosystems are constantly measuring and analyzing factors for instance temperatures or the moisture content of the soil. The raw data received is then forwarded to cloud service platforms with a view of being analyzed using increased sophisticated artificial intelligence and statistical models of differentiation. Through the IoT with the geographical information system and big data analytics, all the stakeholders can be in a position to make right decisions concerning the use of resources, pollution, and calamity prevention. This also encourages participation as it offers timely and applicable recommendations to policymakers, researchers, and other interested persons/progroups in the community. Some of the threats accompanied with the adoption of IoT, such as security and privacy, data storage and management, IoT device energy consumption, and others are addressed, as well as possible solutions to some of these challenges are presented. This research has illustrated the practical use of IoT-based EMS and can be considered as a theoretical and practical background for creating an EMS for developing countries. This work establishes the role and impact of IoT as the world proceeds to embrace better and sustainable means of implementing the sustainability goals that has to do with environmental responsibility and sustainability that comes with this technology.
