Evaluation of Adjustable Potential for Demand Response in Power Systems
Effective demand-side management is crucial for maintaining power system security and promoting economics. This paper presents a method for calculating the adjustable potential of loads based on their electrical demand patterns. Based on historical load data, the well-established K-Means clustering algorithm is employed to identify typical electricity consumption behaviors of loads, while the Calinski-Harabasz (CH) index to determine the optimal number of clusters. A quantitative model is then developed to evaluate both the most likely and Maximum Security-Constrained Potential of loads. Case studies based on actual data from a district of a capital city in a southeast province of China, demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach for assessing the potential of flexible loads.
