Electron Transport in Low Temperature Hydrogen

We present preliminary electron mobility measurements in gaseous hydrogen from room-down to low temperature in a custom-made apparatus. Measurements at room temperature were carried out in order to compare our results with literature data. Further measurements have been carried out down to <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$T\approx 30\mathbf{K.}$</tex> The electric field dependence of mobility data is compatible with the assumption that the momentum transfer scattering cross section is large and independent of the electron energy in the electric field region we have explored. Furthermore, at the lowest temperature investigated, we observe that the density dependence of the zero-field, density-normalized mobility <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mu_{0}N$</tex> can be interpreted in terms of multiple scattering effects
