Gas Fees Optimization

Gas expenses pose a critical challenge for both developers and users in blockchain environments, particularly as decentralized applications (DApps) increase in complexity. On platforms like Polygon Amoy, the cost of executing smart contracts and other on-chain operations can become prohibitively expensive, especially as transactions become more intricate. Gas expenses are primarily determined by the computational resources required to perform these operations, with more complex transactions demanding higher fees. In this paper, we present four gas optimization methods aimed at reducing the gas costs associated with smart contract execution. These methods include the ERC-20 Permit Method to eliminate redundant approval transactions, uint8 to uint256 Conversion to minimize unnecessary computational costs, Batch Processing of Transactions to consolidate multiple operations into a single transaction, and Avoiding Storage Operations Technique to reduce costly storage interactions. Additionally, we apply six optimization techniques to further enhance gas efficiency: Reentrancy Guard, Gas Token Usage, Function Visibility Optimization, Avoiding Redundant Computations, Fallback Function Optimization, and Use of Inline Assembly. Through practical workflows and detailed code analysis, we demonstrate that these methods and techniques lead to substantial gas savings. A comprehensive comparison of the savings across the methods and techniques reveals that the application of these optimizations can reduce gas consumption by up to 30 %. The findings underscore that even minor adjustments to smart contract code can result in significant cost savings, particularly on blockchains like Polygon Amoy, where gas fees are a critical concern for developers.
