Coordinationed optimization of the STATCOM-PSS device parameter design based on the WPTB delivery system

In the context of wind-PV-thermal-bundled (WPTB) delivery system, the effectiveness of an additional damping control strategy in mitigating the impact of low-frequency oscillations on the power system is investigated in this study. Firstly, a power system model incorporating wind, thermal, and photovoltaic generation is established, and controllers for Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) and Power System Stabilizer (PSS) are designed. Secondly, an objective function is formulated based on Lyapunov stability criteria, gradually increasing damping ratios with iteration under low-frequency oscillation modes. Lastly, considering the coupling characteristics among multiple controllers, an optimization algorithm combining Nutcracker Optimization Algorithm (NOA) and Levy flight strategy is employed to optimize the parameters of PSS and STATCOM controllers. Simulation results on the IEEE 4-machine 2-area system demonstrate that the optimization algorithm combining NOA and Levy flight strategy achieves faster convergence and superior optimization effectiveness. The coordinated action of PSS and STATCOM effectively suppresses parameter fluctuations caused by low-frequency oscillations, enhances system damping, and significantly improves system angular stability.
