Abstract

Flexible electronics plays a potential role for seamless transformation and integration of smart devices such as smart tags, flexible screens, and several other wearable objects. The current advancements in E-textiles with incorporation of minuscule electronic objects have resulted in the development of smart garments for tracking and monitoring of a variety of objects and significantly impacted people’s lifestyle worldwide. This research work demonstrates the design and analysis of novel and low profile chipless RFID tag possess bending characteristics and ability to undergo mechanical deformation. The proposed framework is basically an elliptical rectangular shaped structure composed of sixteen resonators with the overall geometric configuration of 14 mm x 10 mm and each resonator is equivalent to exactly one bit in the microwave frequency band from 3.03 GHz-8.8 GHz.In the initial phase, the suggested chipless tag with periodic resonator pattern is designed for the flexible laminate Rogers RT Duroid 5880 with copper serving as the conducting material and operating in the 3 GHz–8.9 GHz frequency range. Furthermore, the extensive investigation of the suggested tag is applied to a variety of flexible, polymer-based substrates, including PET, Denim, and Jeans. The procedure of optimization involves using inexpensive aluminum ink and copper as the radiating substance. The frequency response shows that there are no harmonics, which is particularly advantageous for increasing encoding capacity. With the corroborating features of polarization independence and high code density of 11.4 bits/cm2, the tag can effectively labels 65,536 distinct items. The proposed chipless RFID tag is commercially deployable for a wide range of Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
