An Efficient System to Detect the Freshness of Fruits

To maintain the freshness of fruits is essential to ensure quality and minimize food wastage throughout the supply chain. This research introduces an efficient system to evaluate fruit freshness using Arduino UNO as the core controller. The system incorporates an IR sensor for fruit detection, an MQ3 gas sensor for analysing gas emissions associated with spoilage, a servo motor, and a motor driver to operate a conveyor belt for automated processing. An LCD display provides real-time updates, ensuring ease of use and accessibility. The MQ3 sensor evaluates volatile gases emitted by fruits to assess freshness, while the IR sensor detects their presence on the conveyor. The motorized conveyor enables seamless movement of fruits for inspection, guided by a servo motor for precise control. The Arduino processes the data from sensors and triggers actions, accordingly, displaying the results on the LCD. This cost-effective and scalable system offers a practical approach for implementing freshness detection in commercial and domestic environments. The proposed model not only ensures quality control but also reduces human intervention, making it a valuable contribution to improving efficiency in food supply chains. The simulation was performed using Python to model gas emission trends and analyse MQ3 sensor data for fruit freshness detection.
