A Novel Real-Time Decision Support Framework to Avoid Fast-Evolving Cascading Failures
In this paper, a novel wide-area monitoring protection and control framework has been presented. It is designed to make decisions in real-time to assess the vulnerabilities of the system and to implement any necessary mitigative actions. The framework uses databases and models generated through extensive offline simulation and analysis. These artefacts are used for real-time security analysis and mitigation. The design and applicability of the framework has been tested using a synthetic model of the Texas grid, using a case of fast-evolving cascading failure. Its performance has been compared against that of conventional load shedding schemes.
