Engineering Design of a Low-Profile Wideband Monocone With Vertical Polarization and Null-Filled Pattern for UAV Communication
Based on the request of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communication, this work proposes a novel monocone antenna of a vertically polarized wideband antenna with characteristics of null-filled pattern, low profile, and low cost. The proposed concept is developed using the loop-slot structure and a group of guiding stubs on a traditional vertically polarized monocone with a top hat and shorting pins. The measured results show that the fabricated prototype has some remarkable performances, such as high zenith gains exceeding 1.60 dBi and acceptable horizontal gains of -9.86 dBi in a wide frequency band of 1.4∼2.8 GHz and a competitive low profile of 0.14 λ0(λ0 is the wavelength at 2.1 GHz).
