Wideband Wide-Angle Scanning Dual-Polarized Magnetoelectric Dipole Antenna-in-Package for 5G Millimeter-Wave Mobile Terminals

A millimeter-wave (mm-wave) broadband widebeam dual-polarized magnetoelectric dipoles (ME-dipoles) Antenna-in-Package (AiP), utilizing low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology, is presented. This AiP achieves a broad impedance bandwidth of 62.3% and maintains a half-power beamwidth (HPBW) of about 100° within the 24−36 GHz frequency band. Remarkably, due to the principle of total reflection, it achieves a low coupling level of below −20 dB across a 52% bandwidth, without the need for additional structures to isolate co-polarization ports of adjacent elements. Additionally, a four-element linear phased array based on this AiP design has been developed, fabricated, and tested. This phased array exhibits good performance in the 22.75−31.5 GHz range, effectively covering the 5G n257/n258/n261 bands. It provides a scanning capability exceeding ±51°, with a maximum scanning range of ±66°, and maintains gain variation within 3 dB.
