Bibliometric analysis of indigenous library and information science (LIS) journals in South-South Nigerian public universities: 2018 to 2022

This bibliometric study examined indigenous Library and Information Science (LIS) journals in three public universities in South-South Nigeria from 2018 to 2022. Adopting a systematic review research design, it assessed all indigenous LIS journals within these university libraries. Data were collected and analysed using frequency counts and simple percentages, offering a descriptive statistical overview of yearly publication patterns, authorship productivity, and research areas. The findings revealed 15 indigenous LIS journals, with the University of Uyo having the highest number. A total of 252 authors published in these journals, with Nsirim, P. O. being the most prolific. Electronic resources emerged as the most researched area. It also revealed a decline in the acquisition of indigenous LIS journals between 2018 and 2022. The study recommends that public university libraries prioritize the acquisition of indigenous LIS journals and encourages LIS professionals to increase research output to further enrich the field.
