DENTOALVEOLAR TRAUMA: CASE REPORT

Background: Dentoalveolar trauma is a common dental emergency, particularly in children and adolescents, with significant implications for both oral function and psychosocial well-being. Prompt diagnosis and evidence-based intervention are crucial to minimize complications such as pulp necrosis, root resorption, and functional impairment. Objective: This case report aims to describe the clinical management of a complex dentoalveolar fracture in a pediatric patient treated at a public emergency service and later referred to a specialized trauma care center. Case Presentation: A 13-year-old male presented with a segmental fracture of the maxillary alveolar process, involving displacement of the upper left central and lateral incisors, accompanied by gingival laceration. Clinical and tomographic evaluation confirmed palatal displacement of the bone segment. Treatment consisted of atraumatic reduction and stabilization with a semi-rigid splint using a stainless-steel wire and composite resin. Postoperative care included oral hygiene instructions, antibiotic and analgesic prescriptions, and a strict follow-up protocol over one year. Conclusion: The reported case highlights the importance of rapid multidisciplinary intervention and the efficacy of semi-rigid splinting for stabilizing alveolar fractures in young patients. Beyond technical execution, trauma management requires effective communication, patient adherence, and ongoing surveillance to ensure favorable long-term outcomes. Public health strategies aimed at prevention and awareness are essential to reduce the incidence and severity of such injuries.
