Effect of Metal Organic Frameworks on Dielectric Characteristics of Mineral Oil
It is crucial to remove excess moisture from Mineral oil (MO) to ensure the smooth operation of power transformer. The transformer must be shut down for complete procedure of conventional oil filtering to remove the excess moisture, which involves drying the oil using heat and vacuum. Developing an alternative technique to remove the moisture from MO without taking shutdown is a critical need. Metal Organic Frameworks (MOF) has shown moisture adsorbing properties when administered into MO. In previous research, MOF is integrated into transformer oil using various techniques including filter paper pouch suspension and sandwich layer methods. However, in all these approaches, the MO inevitably comes in contact with MOF. Consequently, it is crucial to investigate the dielectric properties of MO as impacted by presence of MOF and there by exploring the possibility of future application of MOF in MO. Thus, the aim of this work is to investigate how MOF affects electrical characteristics such as dielectric response analysis, AC breakdown voltage (ACBDV) and also total acid number (TAN) when in direct contact with MO. The Zr based MOF 801P powder is added in three different concentrations (0.04%, 0.06% and 0.008%) into fresh mineral oil (FMO) and oxidized mineral oil (OMO). It is observed that the presence of MOF 801P in MO leads to the moisture reduction over a period of time. The BDV and TAN of the prepared samples are carried out to observe the effect of MOF, whereas, frequency domain spectroscopy (FDS) of prepared samples is carried out using a Solatron 1260 impedance analyzer, covering a frequency spectrum from 01 mHz to 10 kHz and dielectric parameters such as real permittivity, imaginary permittivity, Tan delta and conductivity are recorded and discussed.
