Capoeira as an Educational Practice for Afro-Brazilian History and Culture
ABSTRACT This study explores the use of capoeira as a practice for teaching Afro-Brazilian history and culture. This study aimed to describe the knowledge and experiences of integrated high school students regarding capoeira as an educational practice. We conducted action research with 35 Federal Institute of Acre students through a discussion circle. The conversations were recorded, typed up, and analyzed for themes. The findings indicated that students lacked a theoretical and practical foundation in capoeira, and only a few reported experiences related to ethnic-racial issues. Moreover, many expressed beliefs, particularly religious ones, associated with the topic. Therefore, it is essential to implement teaching practices that foster meaningful learning about capoeira as a fundamental element of Afro-Brazilian history and culture.
