Functional Carbon Nanomaterials in Perovskite-Based Solar Cells: From Fullerenes to Carbon Nanohorns
Carbon allotropes such as graphene, carbon nanotubes, carbon nanohorn fullerenes, and their derivatives have been of great importance in the search for efficient and stable perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The combination of remarkable properties, thermal stability, tunable optical band gaps, high charge carrier mobility, chemical versatility, and hydrophobicity, are of paramount importance to understand their beneficial effects over PSCs. Pristine or functionalized carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) have been suitably incorporated into different layers of the PSCs architectures. Thus, CNMs endowed with a variety of chemical functionalities have been employed as hole and electron transporting layers as well as additives in blends within the perovskite layer. This perspective focuses on our group’s research journey in PSC development, highlighting the benefits of incorporating CNMs in different layers to improve PSC performance and stability.
