The Role of Comprehensive to Approach in Correction and Rehabilitation for Individuals with Hearing Impairments in Reducing the Risk of Cognitive Dysfunction
Introduction. The role of comprehensive approach in rehabilitation for individuals with hearing impairments in reducing the risk of cognitive decline Introduction. Interacting with the environment, obtaining information and communication with other people are carried out through perception of sounds. Hearing impairments causes a deterioration of the quality of life, leading to speech interference, and impaired cognitive function. Hearing loss is an urgent problem of modern society due to different etiological factors. In order to achieve the maximum effectiveness of auditory rehabilitation, the comprehensive approach combining medical, psychological and pedagogical aspects is required. Materials and methods. The research was conducted based on theoretical analysis of foreign and domestic scientific literature on the issues of interconnection of hearing and cognitive functions. In the course of the analysis both direct and indirect impacts of auditory function on cognitive processes were considered. In addition, the study analyzed the current state of the methods of correction and restoration of hearing with interdisciplinary approaches. Results. Hearing loss affects not only ability to perceive sounds, but cognitive function such as memory and attention. There are many hypotheses that attempt to explain this phenomenon, however, a causal link between hearing impairments and cognitive decline still remains a subject of scientific debate. Auditory rehabilitation aims not only to restore the hearing but to minimize the negative impact of hearing loss on cognitive functions. The effectiveness of rehabilitation measures is determined by comprehensive medical, psychological, and pedagogical approach. Discussion and conclusion. The individuals with hearing impairments must be able to receive comprehensive and timely auditory rehabilitation throughout the life course. The success of rehabilitation measures is directly related to an enabling environment and close interaction of specialists with families of individuals with hearing impairments. The effective work with individuals with hearing impairments should be carried out by a multidisciplinary team of qualified specialists (audiologists and otolaryngologists, surdo pedagogues, defectologists, speech therapists, psychologists) with deep knowledge of rehabilitation and with modern methods of its conducting. An extensive research for detecting causal relationships between hearing impairment and cognitive deficit is required. It will allow to gain more complete understanding of how overcoming hearing impairments can help reduce the risk of developing cognitive disorders and slow its progression.
