Synthesis of N-Methylated Amines via Reduction of Carbamates Using Amidophosphine Borane

A hydride transfer strategy for the synthesis of N-methylated primary, secondary amines, and N-methylated heterocyclic amines is reported. This protocol effectively converts diverse carbamates into N-methylated amines using bench-stable amidophosphine borane as a reducing agent. The reaction demonstrates a broad substrate scope and functional group tolerance under mild conditions. Additionally, the application of this protocol for the synthesis of pharmaceutically active butenafine analogues is shown.
