CHUVASH EXHIBITS OF THE ALL-RUSSIAN ETHNOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION OF 1867 IN THE COLLECTION OF THE RUSSIAN ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM: RESULTS OF ATTRIBUTION
The article presents the results of the attribution of Chuvash exhibits from the All-Russian Ethnographic Exhibition held in Moscow in 1867. The exhibition featured Chuvash costumes, as well as musical instruments and models of buildings from the Saratov, Samara, Ufa and Kazan provinces. Currently, a significant part of the exhibits is kept in the Russian Ethnographic Museum, but information about many of them has been lost. As a result of the research, 16 Chuvash exhibits were identified in the museum's collections, their belonging to the collections of O. A. Armfeld, A. A. Ryabinin and K. A. Borodaevsky was determined and the places of their existence were clarified. The article also examines the history of the items’ arrival at the exhibition and their subsequent display at the Dashkov Ethnographic Museum. Based on the analysis of written, illustrative and material sources, the author comes to the conclusion that both Chuvash costumes were assembled from items in a collection received from the Samara province by O. A. Armfeld, and the items acquired in the Saratov province by A. A. Ryabinin were not used in the exhibition or were used in costumes of other peoples. Chuvash costumes were supplemented with Mordvin clothing and jewelry.
