Purple as a Colour of Thunder in Works of B. L. Pasternak

The article examines the features of the functioning of the adjective-coloronym lilac in the prose and poetry of B. L. Pasternak. The material for the analysis is the stories Childhood of Luvers, Safe Conduct, Appeles's Trait, the cycle of poems Neskuchny Sad and other works. During the analysis it was established that lilac is an associative colorative indicating the color not directly, but with the help of a prototype - the name of an object, the coloring of which is the basis for describing the corresponding color. It is revealed that the coloronym lilac is mainly used in relation to the description of a thunderstorm, its expectation and its consequences, which gives grounds to say that lilac is the color of a thunderstorm. It is emphasized that the color has a direct association with a specific object in the individual author's picture of the world. It is concluded that the adjective lilac is used not so much to denote a color shade, but mainly has a connotative meaning to convey the inner world, attitude to a situation, feelings and mood, and is associated with darkness, mysticism, gloom.
