The main aspects of technology selection and implementation for the disposal of sulfur-containing process gases of the Nadezhdinski Metallurgical Plant pyrometallurgical production
As part of the implementation of the federal Clean Air program, Norilsk Nickel is implementing the Sulfur Program at the Nadezhdinski Metallurgical Plant named after B. I. Kolesnikov, which provides for the introduction of a new technological scheme for the disposal of sulfur dioxide from exhaust gases with a degree purification exceeding 99.5%. The task of disposing of sulfur dioxide from the exhaust gases of pyrometallurgical units to ensure compliance with the requirements of the environmental legislation of the Russian Federation does not have simple solutions and requires the organization of a multi-stage technological scheme. The main problem of processing gases to obtain marketable products with satisfactory consumer characteristics is the high content of impurity components, the source of which is the unique processed raw materials of the multicomponent mineralogical composition of the Taymyr Peninsula. The main approaches to the choice of technology for the disposal of process gases at the Nadezhdinski Metallurgical Plant and the specifics of their implementation in the Polar branch of PJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel are presented. When choosing the technology, we took into account both the global experience and the experience of the Copper Plant, as well as the composition of the exhaust gases, the capabilities of existing technologies capable of using sulfur-containing process gases of variable composition as raw materials. Taking into account all the above factors, it was decided to introduce a technology for the production of sulfuric acid by contact, which includes a preliminary multi-stage deep purification of gas from impurities, followed by double contact and double absorption. The produced sulfuric acid with a concentration of ~ 94% is directed to neutralize the limestone pulp of the Mokulaevsky deposit to produce a gypsum stone. Gypsum pulp is pumped into a gypsum storage facility.
