Humeral Head Autograft Compaction for Glenoid Preparation in Anatomic Total Shoulder Arthroplasty. A Technical Note from the LaTour Study Group
This technical note describes a surgical method for enhancing glenoid component fixation in anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) by employing autograft from the humeral head. The technique emphasizes cancellous compaction without extensive reaming, optimizing bone preservation and providing structural stability. Clinical implementation of this method has demonstrated promising outcomes with reduced radiolucent line progression and durable glenoid fixation. This report outlines the procedural steps, potential challenges, and advantages of this bone-conserving approach. This reproducible autograft compaction method may enhance glenoid fixation and implant stability in TSA.
