Helical folding of β−1,2-linked carbopeptoid induced with organophilic substituents on side groups
Abstract This paper describes the synthesis and chiroptical responses of β−1,2-linked carbopeptoids. The polymers are synthesized via the polycondensation of β-glycamino acid as a sugar-based β-amino acid. The ultraviolet-visible (UV–vis), circular dichroism, and near-infrared spectra of the polymers suggest that the helical folding of a β−1,2-linked carbopeptoid appears to be mainly driven by the hydrophilic–lipophilic balance between the peptide backbone and the side groups rather than by intrachain hydrogen-bonding interactions.
