Mapping the literature on the factors that influence cybersecurity. A bibliographic coupling analysis
Human factors represent a critical and underexplored dimension within the field of cybersecurity. This study aims to map the structure and evolution of human factors in cybersecurity, to understand their development and emerging trends. A systematic literature review was conducted using a co-word analysis approach, following the PRISMA 2020 methodology, and analyzing a total of 125 articles between the years 1992 and 2024. The results shown an increase in publications were observed in 2016 and between 2020 and 2022, possibly influenced by global and geopolitical events. Eight thematic clusters were identified: Human factors, information science & library science, electronic mail, compliance, protection motivation theory, training, social engineering and factors, with human factors emerging as a growing and increasingly interconnected topic. The conclusions highlight that human factors in cybersecurity should be addressed from a multidisciplinary perspective. Future research lines include the development of predictive models, training, and security policies based on psychological, organizational, and social factors.
