Communication Alienation among College Students in the New Media Era and Pathways to Reconstruction—Based on Habermas’ Theory of Communicative Action
Against the backdrop of deep penetration of new media technologies, the college student demographic faces significant communication dilemmas. Based on Habermas’ theory of communicative action, this paper analyzes the manifestations and root causes of communication alienation among college students in the new media era. The study finds that communication alienation among college students primarily manifests in three dimensions: information overload, symbolic inflation, and algorithmic domestication. To address these issues, this paper proposes three reconstruction pathways: rebuilding dialogic consensus through “rational return to real interpersonal communication,” creating a “sincere communication” environment to resolve symbolic inflation, and advocating for “embodied communication” to restore the ontological status of bodily experience in communication.
