Resocialization of persons released from prison: socio-legal aspect
The article is devoted to the in-depth study of criminal-legal problems of the peculiarities of the socio-legal adaptation of persons released from places of deprivation of liberty, which is one of the vulnerable categories of citizens who require increased attention from social services, law enforcement agencies and society in general. It is emphasized that generally accepted social norms provide for the lawful, socially beneficial behavior of a person. Therefore, it is important that a person undergo the process of resocialization in an environment with precisely such value-legal attitudes and avoid restoring and maintaining contacts with persons prone to unlawful, marginal behavior. It is noted that specialized institutions operate in Ukraine for released persons, namely: – a social adaptation center; – a special boarding house. We emphasize the importance of the activities of social patronage entities, since executive authorities at the central and local levels, as well as local self- government bodies, are responsible for the implementation of social patronage for persons released from prison. Attention is focused on the fact that the resocialization of persons released from prison is a directed process of integrating a person into a full-fledged social life, which includes his return to independent functioning in society in accordance with generally accepted norms and rules of coexistence. It is noted that in the process of resocialization, socially useful connections should be restored and a negative attitude towards a marginal lifestyle, as well as to illegal behavior, should be formed. This process should begin while serving the sentence and continue after the person is released. It was emphasized that the main aspects of the resocialization of persons released from places of deprivation of liberty can be defined as: – socio-legal measures (employment, education, decent living conditions, medical care, etc.); – moral and psychological (prevention of stigmatization, psychological and rehabilitation support, involvement in society with the help of public and religious organizations, formation of value-based legal guidelines).
