Effects of Admission Motivation on Educational Satisfaction and Dropout Intention among Adult Learners

This study explores how intrinsic and extrinsic enrollment motivations affect adult learners’ educational satisfaction, dropout intention, and learning continuity. Using quantitative and qualitative data from a consortium university survey, the research finds that intrinsic motivations like interest and aptitude significantly enhance satisfaction and reduce dropout risks. Conversely, extrinsic motivations are linked to lower satisfaction and higher dropout tendencies. Relational factors such as instructor support, emotional connection, and belonging emerged as key drivers of satisfaction. The study highlights the need for pre-admission guidance, relationship centered environments, and psychosocial support to improve adult learners’ educational outcomes.
