Asymmetric Total Syntheses of (−)-Ervatamine and (+)-19,20-Dehydroervatamine via Late-Stage Directed Indolization

Asymmetric total syntheses of (-)-ervatamine and (+)-19,20-dehydroervatamine are described. The key is the directed, late-stage implementation of the indole unit, enabled by the strategically installed ketone group in the central cycloheptene ring.
