All bodies are welcome! Events as displays of universal design and disabilities
This research explores the challenges individuals with disabilities face in overcoming physical and social barriers. Drawing on data from ethnographic research at the TravelAbility Summit, the study emphasizes that accessible event design requires awareness and training to deal with the complexity of diverse needs. Universal design principles offer a framework for improving accessibility as an equitable approach. The research calls for tourism and hospitality industries to shift focus from compliance to creating inclusive experiences that cater to a growing community of people with disabilities. This approach also promotes visibility and fosters perspective change on social representation.
