Non-rhymed Sonnet in Pashto Poetry and Literature

In this research paper and article, we aim to introduce the concept of the non-rhymed sonnet to researchers, poetry enthusiasts, and literature lovers. This form can be considered a type of free verse because, although it is free from rhyme, it is not devoid of meter, structure, or melody. A non-rhymed sonnet maintains a correct syllabic meter and melodic flow. If a sonnet is written without rhyme and is composed in such a way that it does not cause any quantitative or qualitative fluctuation in its overall content, while still preserving all its lyrical characteristics and qualities, then it can be considered a free and innovative form of poetry. This new rhymeless poem is a true expression of poetic freedom. The non-rhymed sonnet features a prominent refrain that, along with its meter, is repeated throughout the poem at appropriate intervals. This repetition contributes to the sonnet's distinct tone and melody. These and several other elements help maintain harmony and balance between the poem's content and form, ensuring that the structure enhances rather than detracts from the expression of thought. Since this is the first attempt to modify the form and structure of the classical sonnet, it will exist alongside the traditional form, leading to a transformation in the external structure of the sonnet. It is hoped that young writers and poets of the new generation will continue to develop this innovation, preserving both the strong classical form of the sonnet and this new, non-rhymed version. Such efforts will contribute to the growth and evolution of the sonnet, and these innovative approaches will help enrich and strengthen Pashto poetry and literature as a whole. Keywords: non-rhymed, sonnet, thought, form, transformation
