The reading practices of Vladimir Dmitrievich Nabokov
V. D. Nabokov, an outstanding theorist of criminal law, a public figure, actively used his personal library in his various cases, information about which is reflected in historiography, but his individual reading techniques have not yet been studied due to the lack of sources adequate for the tasks. The reading practices of a lawyer and a politician are presented for the first time. A representative database of sources – books with notes from his personal library, his journalistic and scientific works, ego documents (letters and memoirs), office records (catalog of his personal library) – allowed us to describe the habits, methods and techniques of working with the book, the intensity and breadth of interests of V. D. Nabokov, as well as ways to extract meanings and meanings and their application. From the existing approaches to the study of practices, those used by representatives of the school of Annals (R. Chartier) studying the history of reading (socio-cultural) and anthropological, proposed by M. de Certeau, a theorist of the sociality of practices. R. Piercy’s work "Reading as a philosophical practice" (Yerevan, 2024) is significant for the theoretical framework of the study. The reconstruction of V. D. Nabokov’s creative laboratory is important for the study of individual and collective practices of lawyers at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries, as well as the history of reading in Russia during this period.
