A study on balancing conservation and growth of sustainable developmental practices in Ladakh
Tourism is putting more and more strain on Ladakh, an area known for its distinctive cultural legacy and delicate high-altitude ecosystem. This study examines the efficacy of Ladakh's existing sustainable tourism initiatives with the goal of determining how they affect environmental preservation, the socioeconomic growth of nearby villages, and the preservation of cultural integrity. The research evaluates the advantages and disadvantages of current efforts using secondary data, such as research journals, research papers, and analysis of current tourism data. It also addresses the main obstacles to the region's long-term viability and broad adoption of sustainable tourism. Based on the studies, this study proposes a comprehensive framework for continuous improvement, incorporating adaptive management strategies, enhanced stakeholder collaboration, and measurable indicators to ensure the long-term sustainability of Ladakh's tourism sector. In order to promote a more responsible and advantageous regional tourism model, this framework offers useful suggestions for legislators, travel agencies, and local communities. Ecotourism has emerged as a way to promote local involvement while mitigating the negative effects of traditional tourism. Economic outflows (when revenues fail to benefit local populations), sociocultural upheaval (loss of cultural authenticity, commodification of local traditions), and environmental degradation (overuse of resources, pollution, and habitat destruction). Compare this to the core tenets of ecotourism, which emphasize its dedication to environmental preservation, education, and improving the welfare of local populations. This study explores the social and economic effects of ecotourism in Ladakh, India, an area with significant ecological concerns and development opportunities.
