Assessing the risk of the relationship between Internet addiction and coping behavior in adolescence
The study of the relationship between Internet addiction and behavioral problems in young people is an important area of research. Coping strategies used by young people help to overcome communication difficulties and realize strengths in studies and social interactions. Unproductive coping strategies, on the contrary, can lead to conflicts, decreased academic performance and loss of authority, and also contribute to excessive use of Internet resources. This creates illusions of virtual security and satisfaction, forming low self-esteem and a stable model of Internet-dependent behavior. Diagnostics were carried out in a group form, the subjects were provided with stimulus materials, instructions and answer sheets. Research methods: testing, methods of mathematical statistics and interpretation of results, the following methods: questionnaire «Style of self-regulation of behavior» (V. I. Morosanova), Chen’s Internet addiction scale, questionnaire «Ways of coping behavior» R. Lazarus. The conducted study demonstrates the existence of statistically significant relationships between the level of Internet addiction and coping strategies in subjects of both sexes. As a result of the conducted study, a special program was developed, the purpose of which is to improve constructive coping behavior in students. The program is focused on working with the emotional sphere of students and is aimed at mastering new methods to reduce psycho-emotional stress and increase their psychological competence.
