Prospects for the growth of sunflower seed production in the regions of Russia

The relevance of the topic is determined by the need to analyze the factors that have contributed to the achievement of record sunflower production in Russia in recent years. The analysis of the dependence of sunflower seed production indicators on the movement of fixed assets of agriculture, the amount of fertilizers applied and financial support for agriculture over a long period in the regions was carried out, which made it possible to assess the possibilities of maintaining the growth rate of sunflower seed production. It is concluded that in order to realize the growth potential of sunflower seed yields in regions with low yields, it is necessary to increase the values of all indicators of material, technical and financial provision of agriculture. The leading regions in terms of sunflower seed yields are at the level of the average-yielding regions in terms of production and financial indicators, which highlights the dependence on the degree of favorable agro-climatic conditions in these regions, which differ in different years. In regions with average sunflower yields, the potential for production growth varies depending on the quantitative limitations of the possibilities for expanding acreage, the level of modernization of production facilities, the volume of fertilizers applied and the level of financial support for agriculture. The relevance of applying these measures will increase in the context of a sharp increase in the need to ensure food security and increase the country’s export potential.
