Dynamics of global gross harvests of the main categories of fruits and berries

In this article, the authors analyzed the transformation of the global volumes and structure of production of fruit and berry products for 2014-2023 based on FAO data. Based on the results of 2023, twenty most significant categories of fruits and berries in terms of global gross harvests were identified. For each of them, the importance of ten countries that are their main producers in this indicator is reflected. Of these countries, those that are among the main exporters of these twenty types of fresh fruit and berry products are mentioned. In addition, for each of these fruits and berries, the authors calculated the absolute and relative changes in comparison with the same indicator for 2014. It was determined that in 2023, the first five leaders of them provided 50.83%, the second – 22.82%, the third – 10.92%, the fourth 4.79% of the global gross harvest of fruit and berry products as a whole. The authors also found that not all countries that were among the top ten leading producers of fruits and berries in 2023 were also their main exporters. Most of the countries with large populations, including Russia, were focused on meeting their own needs. At the same time, some relatively small and medium-sized countries in terms of population are among the world leaders in the export of certain categories of fresh fruit and berry products.
