Generating Compressed Air by Using Vehicle Suspension

This project explores an innovative method of energy harvesting in automobiles by capturing the vertical motion of the vehicle suspension system and converting it into compressed air.Traditional suspension systems dissipate this kinetic energy as heat and vibration, leading to energy wastage. The proposed system integrates a reciprocating mechanism with the suspension to drive a piston-cylinder or mini air compressor, thereby compressing atmospheric air and storing it in a pressure tank. This compressed air can be utilized for auxiliary functions such as tire inflation, cleaning, operating low-energy pneumatic tools, or supporting hybrid systems. The study includes design and simulation of the system, material selection, and experimental evaluation under real-world driving conditions. Results indicate that the proposed solution enhances vehicle sustainability by recovering otherwise wasted energy and reducing reliance on conventional fuel-based systems.
