RESPOSTA AGUDA A BRONCODILATADOR EM PORTADORES DA DOENÇA PULMONAR OBSTRUTIVA CRÔNICA ACOMPANHADOS AMBULATORIALMENTE
Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is caused by exposure to harmful particles or gases. For diagnosis, spirometry is indicated, a mandatory test, with the presence of forced expiratory volume in the first second as a result of forced vital capacity <0.7, post-bronchodilator. However, studies show significant reversibility. It is therefore essential to understand the impact of these drugs on COPD patients in order to manage them appropriately. Aim: To describe the frequency of the presence of acute response to bronchodilators in a sample of COPD patients monitored on an outpatient basis. Methods: Cross-sectional, observational and retrospective study, based on medical records stored in the Exercise Physiology Laboratory, in the Life Sciences Department of the State University of Bahia, in a sample of 160 COPD patients, different genders and ages, between January and December 2019. Variables included hospital registration, date of assessment, hospitalisation, discharge, birth, weight, ethnicity, address, occupation, comorbidities, previous medication, exposure to tobacco and other fumes, laboratory tests, imaging results and lung function. Patients were divided into two groups, based on the Medical Research Council scale and analysed statistically using the Student's t-test and the chi-square test. The Human Research Ethics Committee of the State University of Bahia, Brazil, approved the study under protocol number 4.351.569. Declaration of Helsinki of the World Medical Association, respected. Results: Of 160 patients, 129 did not respond to bronchodilators and 31 did. Statistically significant clinical parameters included age, mean 67.80 + 09.49 in the non-response group and 61.65 + 10.26 in the response group, p < 0.002. Cough was also present in 65 patients with no response and 25 with a response, p < 0.002. With regard to lung function, forced vital capacity and forced expiratory volume in the first second post-bronchodilator showed p < 0.001. The post- bronchodilator FEV1/FVC ratio showed p = 0.50.
