A Study on the Human Resource Conditions of Hotels in Region VIII, Philippines

This study examined the human resource conditions and profiles of hotels in Region VIII, Philippines. The respondents included the hotel managers, middle managers, and rank-and-file employees of the Department of Tourism-accredited hotels in the Philippine Eastern Visayas Region VIII, which used stratified random sampling. The survey comprised a total of 58 accredited hotels with 920 staff. There were 412 responders in the sample, comprising 227 rank-and-file workers, 58 supervisors, and 127 middle managers. The findings show that the hotel management in Region 8 was a profession that struck a balance between stability and professionalism. Although more training and development efforts should be made, the personnel were largely dedicated. The constant working hours, moderate training attendance rates, and relatively low-income levels point to areas that could use improvement, especially in terms of pay and prospects for additional professional growth. The findings of the study also aimed to help improve the human resource management programs of the hotels in the region.
