The interplay of sports activities and academic performance of Grade 4 learners
This study assessed the interplay of sports activities and academic performance of Grade 4 learners in one of the public schools in Carcar City Division, Carcar City, Cebu for the school year 2024-2025 as basis for a comprehensive manual of sports program. A descriptive-correlational research design was used to investigate the relationship between sports activities and academic performance among Grade 4 learners. Findings indicate that a substantial number of students engage in physical activities infrequently, with badminton being the most popular sport. While learners demonstrated high enthusiasm for supporting sports teams and an interest in commercial aspects of sports, their active involvement within school sports communities was less pronounced. Academically, Grade 4 learners generally exhibited Outstanding performance across all core subjects, particularly in MAPEH. Significantly, students perceived a positive influence of sports on their concentration, management skills, and study habits. A statistically significant positive correlation was observed between the level of engagement in sports activities and academic performance, suggesting that greater involvement in sports is associated with better academic outcomes.
