Coordination analysis on runoff and sediment time series via associated modal transfer network construction strategy

In this paper, statistics analysis on the measured data of runoff and sediment time series between 18 years at Sanmenxia Hydrological Station of China are carried out firstly. It was found that the runoff and sediment behaved obviously seasonality during the interval, and the emergence of flood peaks in each year behaved lagged behind the sand peaks. Then, the associated modal transfer network of runoff and sediment series from the perspective of complex network by using the modal transfer network constructing method. By calculating and analyzing the topological properties of the two networks, it is found that most of the important nodes in the two networks are different, but there are also the same important nodes, and most of the higher-order knots appear in the two networks with almost equal frequency. Results proposed here can be helpful for coordination analysis on runoff and sediment time series.
